Without getting too mushy, I want to let everyone in the group know how much these type of outings mean to me right now. All the guys and the ladies are helping me through a rough time in my life and making it much easier than it would be without your help. Ross and I had a wonderful Father's Day that he and I will both cherish forever. Thanks everyone!

Sniff...

Sounds like it was a great trip - like old times. Wish I could have gone but I'm still lacking a spare tire and all my camping stuff is in storage under 4 feet of someone else's crap. The kids are in CA with the G-parents so it wouldn't have been the same without them along anyway. Hopefully the next group trip will fall on a weekend when I have them.

Glad everybody had a good time and stayed safe.

We had about a 15 minute delay in the middle of Jemez Pueblo. [Sorry Becca and Ron. :o ]

Don't worry, we'll give you another chance! ;)

I think stopping was our best decision too. Having been on Paliza only in the snow, we were not expecting such a "riverbed" road, (especially after the "bring the pop-up, no problem" comments earlier) and our dog is just not equipped to handle it. 80 pound greyhounds don't do so well on rough roads; and I gotta admit, I'm a little gun shy right now too.

Anyways, maybe we'll make it next time!

Man, it sounds and looks like you guys had a great time!!! Wish we could have made it, I ended up going up north to fight the South Fork fire so I didnt even get to spend Fathers Day with the family. We will definitely be waiting for the next family camping trip!

I concur with your decision to stay and camp at the Paliza campground. If your 40 is up for it, perhaps you and Paul can "de-virginize" both your rigs on a future trip to the Paliza!!

Quite a bit of the lower portion of the trail is on a wash, hence the roughness. However, the upper portion of the trail is not on a wash but still you get hit with sporadic sections of roughness as well. In any case, not a friendly trail for a low slung vehicles or campers.

I'd be up for a day trip. Perhaps a barBque action (propane grill) at the top for the 4th?

It definitely de-virginized my Hundy. I posted pictures on here somewhere of the ugly damage to several low-slung parts of my undercarriage.

Actually we were not at the campground, we found an awesome spot off the road in the trees by a stream, but regardless...

I really appreciate the offer to "de-virginize the 40 - that's awesome. But... I think I would rather do it elsewhere. The wash is not my type of driving - I just don't like it.
I would however LOVE to go out to the stairs (staircase?) at Cedro and try that out maybe? That is more what I think I like. Or something like that. A nice road with some challenges?

Is that okay?

Also, we may be booked that weekend, not sure yet.

I rode Paliza today on the trail bikes and man was it rough. I don't think I'd take the Hundy on it the way it looked. I don't know how I did it with all the snow covering it 6 months ago.
