Does anyone know of a company or have any experience with custom ordering factory toyota FJ40 colors?

I am toying with the idea of repainting fresh side aprons with a single stage paint. Specifically, I need to track down the Capri blue (T310) for a 1970 40 series.

I know there are older threads, but no one discusses or sites a company or vendor.

Any leads appreciated!

Spray can single stage*** i'd prefer not to mix and shoot...

I had my local paint shop mix a quart and put in aerosols. Turned out really close. Capri blue. The bib, floor and tunnel are all what they mixed

It was $65 (or $85?) for the paint, then $18 per aerosol can. I got 4 cans. So $150 ish.

I did basically that same thing - took in my gas tank lid to auto paint shop - they matched it as close as they could and put in cans. I know the PO didn't cook up the proper mustard yellow - so that was the next best thing.

What I found is not every auto paint shop can do it. Was a bummer as I had to drive some to get it done. I paid by the can - $40.35 a can

It was Auto Color & Equipment - in Independence MO - to speak directly to the first question in this thread.

Looking for third party confirmation that Capri blue (as seen in the photos above) is code T310????? I ran the code and it's displaying what I know to be "Cadet Blue"

I'd say T-310 is the authentic code for Capri blue..

EDIT:

Note that somebody wrote "67-69" on this chip sheet. The note "paint code on left side firewall" was only true on later models, not my 1973 for certain. It was horizontal blue.

Please have a look at link below which shows the horizontal blue. My research was not able to determine when capri blue and horizontal blue were offered, or even if they overlapped in some manner.

The difference between capri blue and horizonal blue is that capri blue has a slightly grayer tinge.

Thanks for the response with the paint chip, however this highlights the issue I had that the paint shop. T310 Capri blue in shops, matches my truck. But the nomenclature for the truck that I own would be considered horizontal blue. In any event, greatly appreciated. Color code changes from 50 years ago... what are you going to do. I guess I'll machine match it and shoot the truck; I'll have to save the mystery of 50 Shades of Toyota Blue for a rainy day. 😂

If you do go for a custom color, make sure you get the details on the formulation for future reference.

Are these cans good enough to do the whole vehicle? Does the end result look good? I'd rather repaint my HJ with cans than have to go through the whole mix/spray thing with a compressor etc.

I used this product to paint my instrument panel, glove box door, ashtray door, front heater, rear heater, and side door access panels. This two part paint mixes the paint and hardener to form a paint that sets like crazy glue instead of "drying" like normal spray paint. After two or three coats, 15 - 20 minutes apart, the result was great, with no orange peel. I used two cans of their stock color, so with multiple coats, it takes a lot of product.

At $35.00 a can for 6 ounces of product, the economics may not be favorable. :hmm:

SprayMAX - 2K Single Stage Aerosol Paint (0080) $34.88

I just had spray cans made up to tidy up my non-factory grey Raptor (bush resistant for South Africa).

I used a small company in UK called Buzzweld that specialises in small quantity paints, and especially Raptor, Direct to metal, and all 1k / 2k finishes.

Most shops charge a fortune for small volume, but search around for a specialist. Mine were about £15 ($20) each, all in.

Be careful if you take a paint sample to get scanned - every part of your truck is a different colour, texture, and glossiness, due to 40 years of fading.
The surface texture can make a big difference to the scan process.

Scan multiple parts and then try to find an average.

There are various colour scanning apps around for your phone and colour code conversions online can also help narrow your search.

Ultimately I got two batches made because the first wasn't right, be prepared for disappointment!

yes I did my truck the color shown in my profile. solid paint. order more cans and are doing half door soon. And new Oem fenders

Great!
I have been debating whether to go the factory type paint: shiny etc. or use a military type paint for my HJ. I don;t want to worry about scratching etc. but then I'm not going to wheel the HJ hard: it's for overlanding, camping... so no rock crawling or heavy mudding.

My HJ is currently a light mint green, almost white. It's an Toyota color and my HJ seems to have the original color. However, I don't like that color. So I am thinking of a Toyota olive green that I have seen-kind of a brownish green. Also thinking of a mustard yellow. Not sure yet. But I will look at these companies for sure!
