Hi,

I Have a 1993 RHD import VX diesel automatic that was imported. The japanese radio does not have the same frequency range, and is useless here. I was told before that all the radio were swappable in these , and bought a clean US spec factory radio from Cruiser Parts.net. My friend who deals with this kind of stuff was putting it in, and he just told me the plugs are different and it will not work.

That radio with the one plug and the black cord is the the factory radio, and the one with two plugs is the USA spec 80-series radio I bought. My question is, are there any Toyota radios that will plug and play in this 93 and allow me to listen to AM/FM radio?

Thank You,
Austin

That second picture is not a US spec 80 series radio. That would only have one connector but does not match the connector in the first photo. What you have most likely is a newer year Toyota radio from a non-80 series. A picture of the front would be helpful. Most likely your going to have to make a custom harness.

Gotcha that is interesting. Going to look at used 80 series radios online, and see if any have the same plug.

If that's the radio from Cruiser Parts, get it returned.

Then check their reviews.

This is the radio that came in almost all US 91-94 models. 95-97 still had the same rear connector but different front face. Both used a separate amplifier. I don't have a picture of an LX-450 radio that had an additional connector for the CD Changer.

Personally you should install an aftermarket radio that is modern and a much higher quality. Cheap harnesses (Metra) to convert to standard Toyota connectors are available at any radio supplier.

Ill try, but its been close to a year. Will probably just try and put it on ebay if I cant use it. Bought a bunch of stuff from them, including USA spec floor cut outs to add a 3rd row seat. Could not find anyone else that would do that for me. They have salvage 80 series on site.

Yes a lot of people including my friend are saying to go aftermarket. Its a shame because I hate the look, and this one plays CDs fine.

Your radio appears to have a different connecter than both of these radios I have. Very confused. Thought this was standardized after 87.

Here's what you do.
Keep that radio in a box.
Then go aftermarket (recommend as shallow a unit as you can find).
At resale, give the buyer that radio in a box and say, "Just swap it in if you want factory look".

AH wish there was some sort of of documentation on these radios, but your right. I can't have this holding up the project any more. And this stuff is just beyond my understanding or interest. Already spent too much money screwing around just to 'keep it original'.

Decided to get this radio. Have it in an older Jeep it I love the look and weather band function. Unfortunately they do not make it with a CD player any more.

This marine radio is also a good option for a simple look.

Seems that all you need is the Toyota radio harness, and this plastic cubby hole to fill the gap.
