Factory PTO Winch - what lube to use?

Should I use some 140w gear oil?

I run 85w-140 with a bit of Lucas in my trans, xcase and PTO winch head. Years of working that poor thing hard and never a problem

I just use the same stuff as in the tranny, transfer and axles. Be gentle when greasing the PTO "U" joints as I'm told that they can easily be damaged by excessive grease pressure.

You should use GL-1 rated gear oil 90wt, same viscosity as 50wt non detergent motor oil. You really shouldn't use a hypoid lube intended for differentials, it's hard on non ferous metals. The planetary in the winch is bronze. The main caricteristic you need is high shear resistance. As you would imagine the shear load is pretty high with the winch under load.
