Does anyone know if a factory electric winch can be fitted to an ARB winch mount bull bar (on my HZJ73). I was planning to go with a 24v 8274 but there's this factory job for sale... I'm told the Aisin winch is even higher quality than the 8274. The guy who's selling it doesn't think it will fit.

Thanks,

Peter

you will be hard pressed to do better than a 8274...
the factory are nice but a bit of a pita when it comes to heavy loads...
i have used a few now and still prefere the 8274...
if you really want a factory winch i have the one on the PZJ70 that i will be unloading in the future...
cheers

The Warn is now the factory winch in oz;)

nice truck but need more lift

Do you mean the troopy. Thats how they are new. The springs are not very good off road. They are mainly designed for load carrying.
The OEM springs are piling up in suspension shops as they change new vehicles over to OME or Dobinsons suspension.
You can buy them for $200 for 4 new springs but I think you could get them for less now;)

that winch on the troopie is no Warn winch.. that is Warns poor excuse for a winch...
the real warn winch is the old upright 8274 or the 8274-50. the low profile don't even make good anchors...
<well in my biased opinion...>

Wayne. May I ask why you say that?
I am not saying you are wrong.
Just wonder where you are coming from.

I have an M8000 and it has been solid every time.
Especially when I really needed it. :)
What makes the low mount ones bad?

As for the hi-mount? Why are they so good.
I hear they pull fast (when loaded), and have good torque for 8000lbs.
Is this why they are good. What makes these the best winch hands down?
I hear they are great. Just wondering why so good.

Thanks,
Nick

Aside from the merits of Warn vs. Factory winches, Petermac was asking if the factory winch would bolt up to the ARB bullbar. Since I have the factory winch, I was also wondering the same thing.
Anyone know offhand?
Thanks

the low profile winch design is marginal at best. the brake system is poor and from my experience and from watching others using these winches i would never trust one in times of dire need. the old upright although ugly in some peoples eyes are tough and relaible *just like a Land Cruiser" they are going on...
this is a personal opinion but based on experience...
each to their own...
cheers

I must need to say yes ... you are right. 8274 Style are the best in my books .. and for sure if you have one, with XP electric motor you have a little more pulling power ..

I've said a number of times that if not for the 8274 and it predecessors, electric winches would have gone out of style in the 70s.

All low mount electric winches suck unless they are attached to a vehicle that is in a position to winch me out of a bog. Then they are pretty cool.

Measure the outisde dimensions of your winch. Measure the foot marks. The winch needs to be able to mount with the feet forward on an ARB bar. On the warn site they list all the dimensions of there winches.

Look at which winches fit what arb bar. If your dimensions are under that of the warn you will be able to fit it. Granted your foot holes arn't too close to the same as the warn, otherwise the holes may have to be elongated. or messy.

So has anyone figured this out yet?
Will the factory winch fit?
Anyone have one to measure?

I would really like to know.
Someone please measure.

Also, is the factory a copy of the M8000 or 8274?

Cheers,
Nick

Most Warn winches have a mounting of
10 x 4.5 inches.

10" accross
4.5 down

The warn site does not state if that is center-to-center, but I would assume it is.
I can measure when I get home.

Anyone have a OEM electric they can measure?
Maybe a pic?

Also, are Warn parts interchangable with the OEM?

Thanks,
Nick

Gregb measured up the mount holes on the Aisin high mount.
26cm x 11.5cm ish which is 10.25"x 4.5" to center of holes.
Looks like it is extremely close. A little work with a rat tail file and I think you would be set.
