Hey everybody,

I getting ready to go buy an engine stand over at harbor freight. Does the F series engine have any issues with a standard engine stand? I don't think so, but I figured I'd ask just in case.

Thanks

f engine is pretty heavy i would buy the stand that can hold the most. i have a big block crysler on one of the harbor freight stands it has a 2x4 under the front of the block for support because engine seemed to sag more than the small block i had on it the first time i used it.

Too heavy for a 1000lbs rated stand?

How about bolt pattern, should match since they are adjustable right?

I agree with coolerman as long as the rating is up. I suggest buying 9 grade bolts to bolt the engine compared to what it may come with if anything. I have a 2 Ton stand and it still is a bit shaky moving around a 3.0 nissan V6 at about 350 lbs.

I'M storing my 2F on one in long term storage while I'm overseas. The only compliant I had was that the hardware that came with it didn't allow casters to rotate. I didn't find this out until after there was weight on them. I had to carefully shim them to get them to change direction, other then that it works just fine.

Yay I picked up a 2000 lbs engine stand from harbor freight that has long foldable legs. It's a litttle overkill but it looks real sturdy and I will be able to move it around if I need.

Question: what size and length bolts are used for the F series engine?

I used the 1000 lb variety and lived to tell about it :D

I did place a proper length 4x4 timber under the crank or oil pan when needing to wrench on the motor while on the stand.

like mentioned, use caution when moving as the T shape will want to tip to the side if your not paying attention. I drug mine through a door and over a 4'' threshold and back in over a dozen times during my extended rebuild and then a good 40' through turf and gravel. I had to cut the back main plate to the stand to make the adjustable arms fit the pattern.

I dont have the stand any more but you could PM demegglio (SP) to ask for further clarification or pics.

fully dressed and doing fine.

I bought one from Napa in 1997 just like the one pictured below and it has been on it since. I pulled it off to move it about a year ago and put it right back on, moved several times (a week it seems).

Tripper

It will hold it fine, just be careful moving it around or rotating it (as others have stated).

I have a "cheap" heavy duty 1250LB U stand, and the engine bounces every time i touch it. I swear it has sagged since the engine has been on it. One of the wheels broke off it while I was moving it, and I had to weld it back together. Mine looks heavy duty, but all I can say is spend the money.

Well, I couldn't get the engine stand arms to fit at all. So I removed the arms and bolted the engine directly to the stand. Only three bolts lined up. So am I crazy doing this or was I supposed fab something to get the arms to fit??

That looks f'ing scary to me. But I'm a wimp. Plus I still have all my fingers & toes and wanna keep them.

Here's the few pics that were easy to find on the harddrive of engine block mounted to the plate. Use the 2 of the arms normally, and flip 2 of the arms around to act as spacers only.
