Whelp, I need help to unravel a mystery.

In the tear down of a ‘70FST I’ve come against an issue.

F block is cast with 60030-11411
A7CF35B1-1B32-46A9-807C-A93B62683407.jpeg

F serial stamping is stamped F__________. Blank

There appears to be a later head that I can not identify. (Casting numbers 60036 and 0413212)

-There are holes in front of and behind the manifolds (near the radiator and the firewall) indicating a non F head.
-No air rail holes
-Top end of engine has silicone toxicity
-Compression check indicates 150 psi +\- 5 psi per cylinder

Can someone tell me
  1. what head do I have?
  2. what head gasket do I use?
  3. should I run it as is or get a true ‘f’ head?

According to prior posts from @FJ40Jim, the larger chamber of a 2f head on F block negatively affects the already terrible compression ratios of these engines

Thanks in advance for the assistance

Correct Paul: replacement block. Standard F issue, unless the oil filter is on the passenger side. Cylinder head standard issue late ‘72, no injection ports.

oil filer is on the left side (drivers) with filter bracket attached to the intake manifold.

if i read this correctly, the head is a standard "F" head.

i read somewhere that bolts in front of and behind the exhaust/intake manifold were indicative of a 2F head. im glad to know this isn't totally bastardized.

when it comes to head gasket, just use standard 72 era?

appreciate it.

The head & block are newer service replacement parts.
The PNs that are 600xx indicate F engine (2F PNs are 610xx).
The date code on top of head is 8 0413, which translates to 1978 April 13th. That's why it has bigger port face and the unused exh bolt holes like a 2F or 74 1.5F.
Date code on engine block is just out of frame in pics. Should be on side of block, toward front, adjacent to cyl #1&2.

Looks like the engine got blowed the heck up in 1978, and new F shortblock & F cylinder head were sourced from toyota.

mystery solved.

VERY much appreciated.

Looks like the replacement block sat on the shelf for several years before things went kaboom.
