1979 FJ40 has never had a problem w/ exterior lights. Now the headlights come on, but taillights will not come on & dash lights will not come on. Brake lights work & turn signals work. Any ida where to start trouble-shooting this? Anybody else had same or similar problem? Thanks in advance.

Check the fuse. Especially check the contact between the fuse and the fuse holders/contacts. I periodically have to move the fuse back and forth in the holders.

Thx. Have never looked at fuses. Where are they & is there a specific one for exterior lights?

The fuse block in your 79 should be to the left of your left foot when sitting in the drivers seat in the kick panel.
It should have a cover panel that indicates the fuse location and what they link power to. Dash lights, cigarette lighter etc.
