It all started with a crank no start. I tested my fuel pump and come to find out it was fried. I replaced the pump with a denso started right up. Drove it for 3 days and same thing crank no started. Got my FSM and started testing and had 15psi fuel pressure. Replaced the fuel pressure regulator. Started right up runs like a sewing machine. Now it has developed a extended crank when cold. When its warm its not as long but still extended. I have checked all my vacum lines and my 3FE is desmogged. When driving it could run any better. What would cause the extended crank it's a 89 fj62

I have check fuel pressure replaced pressure regulator. Check ohms on ever sensors. Check and cleaned cold start injector. Check all vacum hoses replaced fuel filter and still have a extended crank

What’s the fuel pressure during cranking? Did you replace the sock in the tank?

Maybe check the voltage at the pump during cranking and starting - perhaps it's getting too few volts (at some point) to fully create pressure. FP relay maybe?

How long is an "extended" crank? Mine takes 3-4 seconds of cranking before it fires, but it always fires. I have always assumed this is just normal for a 285,00 mile engine. Should I be looking for something?

I thought of this too, But one consideration is fuel pump relay not energizing, or turning on the pump right away.

One test you can do is turn on the key, wait like 5 seconds and then crank. Allow fuel pressure to build up and of course the ECU to set up.
My 3fe also used to do this, waiting a few seconds before cranking did shorten the crank time. But 3-4 second cranks is normal.

I am going to edit your title from "extended crack" to extended crank. Ok?

Thanks for all the help guys and for spell check. I hooked up a fuel pressure gauge tonight and used the FSM all pressures are spot on. The only problem I see is the pressure drops with in 15secs from 37 to 0. New pump and new regulator. I would say injectors but it runs to good for that. Maybe.

isn't the regulator supposed to keep some pressure in the rail?

maybe its a bad regulator? the pump has a check valve built into it, right?

toss your old regulator back in there and see what for
