im in need of the wiring for a electric door lock however im curious how they work? i have a actualtor (toyota) but it has 4 wires comming out the back (white with black strip, brown, blue it red strip, blue with black strip) all farily heavy guage. Im trying to figure out how to operate the acuator? im assuming its not a simple pos, neg, then lock, un lock, or is it? if it is what power should be going into it? maybe the one i have is dead?

    thanks
    mike

    How stuff works
Great site, not always 100% accurate but usually close enough for you to get the basics.

If you're trying to bench test it to se if it's ggod, I don't think you can without it being connected to the vehicle. Try swapping it with one that works, then you can tell if it's the actuator or wiring.
