4" eh? that's more than I would comfortably do with mine with hardwood at least. maybe my blade sucks. Or my sharpening. My pole is just a generic homeowner's one, though, not a fancy pro type. I might need to upgrade. One of those things where good tools make a big difference, likely.

WDE: is Bahco particularly good for some reasons?

If you want a manual saw, this is what I use. Purchased 1 additional extension. This set is not very expensive.

PP 900 Pole Pruner Set - Telescoping Pole Pruner | STIHL USA

If I want to use gas powered, I use my KM130 with chainsaw attachment and extensions.

Buy the best tools you can for the job.

There you go that's a good one. Also look at Trail Blazer or Silky if you want a really good pole pruner. The blades are cheap when the old one dulls just buy a new one.

I have no direct experience with that pole saw but Bahco has a pretty good reputation. I like the looks of the Stihl one that was linked and I'm sure it's very good but it's also $250.

Just get a backhoe or tractor with front end loader and have someone raise you up in it with your chainsaw.

pole saw

Would agree on the Silky. Bought one of these last fall.

Amazon.com: Silky 179-39 Telescoping Landscaping Pole Saw HAYAUCHI 390 21-Feet: Patio, Lawn & Garden

Expensive but real nice tool. If you don't have go above 20 feet I would go for the 2 extension rather than the 3 to save weight.
My son works a shop that sells Echo so I get a bit of a deal. Was going to buy on of their PS and re thought that because of the comments I read by professionals about the weight and how tiring that are.
Japanese pull saws are like magic compared to most others.
Maybe ask on the pro in your area what they use and they may let you try it?

Thanks jb

the reviews on that one are really good indeed.
Yes, weight and limited reach on a power pole saw are issues.
I imagine one can buy extensions after the original purchase?

well, went to see a "nice, runs perfect Stihl HT101" for sale on CL.

very attractive price, except that I found
- missing pole saw attachment
- bent telescoping tube
- powerhead beat to hell, cracked housing and can't tell what model it is cuz it's so scraped up
- no gas cap

some people out there are just something else...

I passed but anyway, to a question. The guy said he'd substitute another pole. But I noticed that instead of the male square shaft protruding at the end as in the reportedly original pole, this one had a female splined shaft seen at the end.

What's the difference?
Was that for an older unit (HT75 maybe?)
And can pole saw attachment still be bought for those if older?
