The first time I saw this BJ74 I noticed what a weird design the exhaust was coming off the headers. Then I thought...hey....you can do some nifty things with this, things hot rodders pay thousands for. Is it possible to mount a Super Trapp muffler at this junction point and have it exit before the rear tire? Is this too much back pressure for a turbo/diesel app? We ran one of these on a VW dunebuggy and it made a huge difference in sound.

This is a Super Trapp:

I thought the landcruiser exhaust fairly normal. The exhaust exits the head via the manifolds ,has a few metres of pipe then a muffler

I wouldnt add anything that creates backpressure. If you slow the exhaust down ,then you slow the turbo.
Freer flowing exhausts work much better

A few owners have the exhaust exiting just in front of the rear tyre but its illegal(I think) where I am.

I'll have to check the back pressure reviews on this piece.

The car I saw had a 3 bolt union under the drivers door that was visible from the outside a few steps back. Its handy, but very open and kind of strange angles.

They seem to work well on diesel engines, some of the equipment we had at work use to come from the factory with them,Thomas loaders(bobcat) with Kubota diesels and some of the generators use to use small versions of them for a reduction in noise off the standard muffler and as a spark arrestor. You might have to go with a larger than normal version with more discs to keep the back pressure down.We use to use them alot on or 4-stroke dirt bikes back when they were popular, but do not see them around as much anymore.
