Kyle - If it is a OEM alternator, here is a possible connector from Coolerman that may work.

Verify the wiring for your 72, but my '77 is connected to the alternator like this:
White/blue stripe goes to the "B" post (ring style connector)
White/black stripe goes to the "E" connector plug
White/green stripe goes to the "F" connector plug

I was thinking I know the ringed one with larger dia wire is obviously the power, I dont care about the gauge, so I just need to figure out which one of those 3 terminals on the Alt is to excite the altenator. ??

It looks like the one wire (has a slip on connector) was doing this before by the PO.

Or should I just go get a 1 wire chevy alt and be done with it?

Is this an externally regulated alt?

My guess is you have a Toyota alternator because the GM's have either two post (numbered 1 and 2), or four post (lettered S,F,L. and P). If you end up with a GM alternator, I can tell you how to wire it into your Toyota.
