Excessive heat inside on passenger side? (1 Viewer)

I removed my carpet today to clean it and noticed that the padding appears to be discolored around the passenger's seat. It looks burned when examining it closely.

I do have numerous exhaust leaks I have not fixed yet and am not sure how long the previous owner ran it that way.

Is the 80 Series known for running hot inside near the exhaust or rear heater opening?

Yes it's hotter in that area due to the things you said.

The cats are located there so it's probably the hottest part of the exhaust system. They have shields above them (in OEM configuration) but that floor still gets pretty warm.

Thanks guys. Never tried to replace carpet before so this wasn't something I expected. I'll go through the threads on insulation / sound reduction.
