Originally from Italy but driven daily in Spain. Have Spanish registration cards.
Currently located in Southern CA, legally registered in South Dakota until January 2021.

There are minimal rust spots but the few it has are around the sides of the roof, just noticed a small one on the passenger rear panel by the tire.

Doubtful, since it was built in 1988 for European standards. But since it’s a diesel, CA doesn’t require smog for diesels before 1997. They won’t have the VIN in the computer though, so they might ask questions if they look too deeply. It has a US title out of South Dakota. South Dakota lets you register with a CA address.

Who/where did you have your 2LT rebuilt? I have a 1987 Toyota Blizzard with the same engine (2LT old-style) with a blown head.

It was done by the previous owner that owned a mechanic shop where we bought it in Spain. Sorry, that isn't very helpful.
