The Product Development/Test Engineer-Fiber Optics based in Austin, TX will be responsible for performing assigned technical activities leading to innovative applications of existing and new technologies for fiber optic connectivity.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Performing assembly and testing of newly developed fiber optic connectivity and cabling products
Documenting experimental data/observations in technical notebooks (or approved electronic files), prepares reports, and makes oral presentations
Working in partnership with design engineers to provide feedback on product design
Developing and documenting assembly processes for a manufacturing environment and working with manufacturing engineers to scale-up production
Establishing and cultivating an extensive network of support (laboratory, manufacturing, engineering, sales and marketing) to facilitate completion of assignments
Actively participating in project planning

Qualifications

Basic/Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma/GED
Minimum of 3 years combined experience in product development and/or product testing of fiber optic connectivity products
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree
Minimum of 3 years experience with fiber optic connector assembly in lab, design and/or production environments
Experience generating test procedures that verifies effectiveness of product design
Experience using Minitab and/or Excel for statistical purposes

Works in partnership with design engineers to provide feedback on product design
Assisting with development of processes for a manufacturing environment and working with manufacturing engineers to scale-up production
Documents experimental data/observations in technical notebooks (or approved electronic files), prepares reports, and makes oral presentations
Establishes and cultivates an extensive network of support (laboratory, manufacturing, engineering, sales and marketing) to facilitate completion of assignments

Qualifications

Basic/Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma/GED
Minimum of 1 year of experience with a broad range of manufacturing technologies including extrusion, coating, lamination and web handling
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science or related discipline
Knowledge of polymers and other materials used for extrusion and/or lamination
Minimum of 1 year experience using Minitab and/or Excel for statistical purposes
Experience with fiber optic and/or copper cable extrusion is a plus
Ability to contribute in a matrix environment
Strong communication skills both oral and written
