320 grit sandpaper on a sanding block will remove just the paint down to the alum thats flat. finer grit sandpaper beyond that will yield shinier results.

She is all dressed and ready to slip in.

Tech added header wrap to the egr tube. And here is the spot where the harness and tube come too close together.

Here is a pic of where I found a lot of dried and deteriorating conduit material. I added some heat wrap when I was working on the harness so I could find it later when positioned on the engine. The location implies that the heat coming off of the oil filter deteriorates the loom.

Got the PHH hose on! Glad to see this!

Yes... I hope too. The labor is warranted and the tech left finger prints all over the FSM.

So far, I trust the guy. He has a lot of good principle and runs everything by the book. Calls out anything that is odd and then does his research.

In this pic, just below the egr valve, you can faintly see the #5 injector wire and its contortion to get from the loom to the injector.

Compared to the #6 injector connector, that wire routes 180 degrees but there is more slack so the bend is not so severe. The #5 wire should have exited the loom a few more inches so that the bend is not so taught.

I realized that I haven't said anything about the injector cleaning. The old injectors all tested 13.5, so they were all good. Performance wise, they were all within 30% of each other. No leaky injectors. After cleaning they are now within 1% of each other. I don't have the report with me, I will post it later.

Transplant almost done. Going into post op soon.

The tech mentioned how much of a challenge it was to get the block and the transmission to align. Unlike domestics, this tranny and engine had to line up perfectly with the splines to install.

And, of course, a few select words about how the radiator mounts to the frame...:bang:

Picking her up today...

Time to listen to some "born to be wild" by the Cult.

just realized you typed "The Cult" "not Blue Oyster Cult"... lol disregard don't fear the reaper

ingenious idea wrapping the EGR tube!!! I have already wrapped my harness but I may wrap the tube just to be on the safe side.

Yes. I like it also. It should help keep heat building up against the firewall. Kind of concerned about the hose clamps...

Maiden voyage on the highway!

Beno, I will as soon as I get things corrected.

Bad news today. After the maiden voyage, I started her up and got a misfire.

Traced it to #5 cylinder and this morning the tech confirmed that the #5 injector is not firing. There is an intermittent short in the engine harness. It failed the wiggle test.

Yes, this is the exact spot that I had to repair and has been a concern ever since I saw the condition of the wire. My guess is that my attempt to repair was not good enough.

I showed the tech the picture I took before my repair.

So now I am waiting. I should be "flamed" for not getting a new harness...

No flaming necessary. Ill still offer a pat on the back and congratulations for getting this far and like you said at least you know where to look and focus energies.

Here is the culprit wire before my repair attempt.

The tech opened up the harness and revealed that my repair was insufficient. Not a quality repair job...
