Owner's manual calls for 10W-30 engine oil in my 1994 USA spec Series 80. Just curious as to what other people use- this truck is driven on the street, and in snow, warmed up thoroughly. Has 175K miles on it, seems to run fine. Does not smoke. About to do first oil change since I got it. I've got 2000-3000 on it since purchase.

I use 0wt-20 in my Tacoma, synthetic, but that is a 2008 truck. It seems to make it easier to start when very cold (like right now) and the mileage may be a little better.

Ordinarily I just put in what the manual sez, but I'm curious as to what the experience has been, here.

Also would like to know best engine oils for 1-HZ and 1-HT as I plan on an engine/trans transplant this coming summer.

Thanks in advance for help.

I run Delo 15W-40. Cheap and my 1FZ seems to love it. 6000 km's and it hasn't leaked or burned a drop. Just over 280k miles on the engine, so she is just a baby still.

3FE or 1FZ-FE? You can put anything in the 3FE. It has to at least look like oil to work in the 1FZ-FE.

missed that...

We prefer the international oil charts. Designed more for engine life than USA mileage standards!

I've found the 10W-30 weight best in my 1FZ-FEs.

Diesel engine oil has better flavor. My 1993 told me so. Specifically Delo 400 15w-40. Or, you could blindfold yourself and choose literally any motor oil on the shelf and hope it’s the one on sale.

175k miles is nothing if the engine was cared for even a little bit. Mine has 281k and uses less than a quart in 5k miles and runs like a dream.

I run 0w40 mobil 1 in all my cars, just wait until it is on sale you get the big jug and a mobil 1 filter for $29.99

Me too in my gas vehicles. Valvoline Premium Blue in my diesels.

I use Amsoil AMO 10w40 (high zinc) with great results. I also use Archoil 9300 nano ceramic additive but, it's an overkill. Anyway, i intend to be the last owner of my LX450.

After reading a lot of oil threads, I decided I am going with 10w30 dino from any brand that meets the API standards based on price. I was using 15w40 Rottella but after reading that it could possibly damage my brand new cats, I decided to move away from it even though the truck ran fine with it. I live in a cold climate and I think the 15w40 was contributing to the occasional screech that is common for these trucks at start up due to something with the way the oil filter works and the oil pump. Since I switched to 10w30, that no longer happens.

I just picked up a 5w-40 to add as it burns down the 15w-40 run in summer. 268K on the ticker, runs great but burns through some oil.

This, and while noted above that most anything that looks like oil will work in a 1fz, I found that when I swapped to M1 Delvac 1 5w40 that I run in my duramaxes, The leaking got better (still leaks just not as much) and the consumption has all but gone away. IIRC the 1fz was speced to run on a 40w in most other markets outside the USA and a 50w in very hot conditions like the Outback and Central Africa. Thanks to the EPA mandate that if thinner oil, gets even a tiny percentage better fuel economy it must be speced, to hell with engine longevity, or if that viscosity is what the engine was even designed to use primarily or not

There's a ton of info about this in the forum, but I'll cast my vote for Mobil1 Ow40 along with the Mobil1 209a oil filter. The bottle says European formula, but you can ignore that. It's the jug that's racist, not the oil.

Like it or not, Walmart has the best prices by far.

Don’t bring racism bulls*** into it. You obviously have no clue what racism is.
