I have a 1981 FJ 40 F2 engine. Never touched. Barn find. I took all the usual precautions. Lubed cylinders. Changed fluids. Rebuilt factory carb.
Fired her up. After 15 years in a Montana barn... she’s alive!
Please listen to the sound on my video. I am familiar with the normal valve noise of an F2. I don’t know what this knocking noise is??? Scoped upper, lower, front and rear. Nothing unusual listening to scope. It sounds more ‘upper’ engine just listening.
Stuck push rod?? Valve adjust lash?
The old owner said it was not knocking when he put it up. Very honest old man said he simply stopped driving it.
Any ideas on where this noise is coming from?
I’m afraid to run it too long.
Thanks! JD

What’s the oil pressure look like? That sounds more like a rod knock than valve train I’d pull the valve cover and start it up and take a look.
Oil pressure is fine.
I thought the next step is to pull the valve cover.
any advice on what to look for?
Just adjust valves to spec?

Thanks!
I tried removing plugs wires one by one. No change.
I’m hoping for stuck push rod...
I’ll pull the cover and look around.
Thanks for the link!
