Hello! My '95 cruiser is having a problem. I'll start it up, engine turns over no problem. But if I leave it idling for a minute and then put it into drive or reverse, the engine dies and I see the big red light come on the dash, as well as the check engine light. However, if I try it again and immediately put it in gear, there's no problem. Can anyone give me some guidance on what's wrong and what I need to fix? Thanks.

Inspect your intake hose between the air filter housing and the engine. Very likely it has a large crack in it.

We looked at it pretty thoroughly and didn't find a crack. Do you have other ideas? 🤔

Main wiring harness that comes off the firewall, wires tend to melt around the EGR valve. When put in gear, the engine torques over a wee bit possibly shorting wires together.

Or it's a bad ground...
