I picked-up a 72 FJ40 in San Diego with no emission control equipment in the engine compartment. Anyone delt with CA DMV with this. I've restored alot of cars and generally if it is 1973 or earlier, they're ususally only confirming brakes, lights, horns and brakes.

I’m pretty sure your ‘72 is smog exempt... but, I left Calif about the time LA discovered smog.

Maybe one of the guys above can confirm.

1975 and older are exempt! Hallelujah!!!

Hence me having a 74 and 75.

75 and earlier are smog exempt. Move forward and rejoice!

Exempt, but if it were me I'd figure out a vapor recovery system so it didn't smell like an old boat all the time.
