Emissions Computer

Question, Any reason the emissions computer can't be removed after doing the smog delete? This is on a 1985 FJ60, carbureted but will be modified with the Affordable Fuel Injection kit sooner than later.

I believe the emissions computer controls the idle cut solenoid. So until you lose the carb, it won't idle without it.

The computer does control the Fuel Cut Solenoid (prevents afterfire during de-acceration) and the Evaporation control system. If you don't have the stock carburetor nor care about venting the fuel delivery system...then maybe you can get rid of it. The diagram below shows what the computer is connected to. Compare that to your desmog...

You're assuming the Emission Computer box is working correctly. Is it, far as you know?

As stated, ECM controls the ICS, for Decel cutout, but if you've ground the white wire to the ICS (stock Aisan carb), that circuit is defeated anyway.

You can deal with the Fuel Tank Venting by substituting a vacuum controlled Canister purge valve for the electrical one, something like this:

(@wngrog frequently uses something like this on his Sniper setups. See his many well-documented build threads and sniper installs).

And if you're in Kalif, why are you desmogging?

Thanks for the info. The fuel cut off was what I was seeing. Like the idea of the manual fuel vent control. Commifornia smog laws really suck. If the intent was clean air then the only thing that should matter is what is coming out of the tail pipe. Luckily I am not from CA and have a residence in a free state.

Yep, and I want to remove it and install my TBI computer in that space.
