Ok so my new pig has some issues. Everything is fine engine wise but the guy I bought it from did not replace anything after changing the engine over to a 2F. One of the major issues is the emergency brake is not connected. I kind of need that. The 2x4 solution sucks.

Does anyone know the length of cable needed to make the repair? My brother-in-law works for a garage door place and the cable used for those is the same thickness and strength. I just need to know how long to get a piece for.

Hmmm...e-brake not reconnected after an engine swap...I gotta ask, is it the original tranny/transfer/e-brake that came with the 55? Or could it be the tranny/transfer/e-brake that came with the 2F? And is that 2F out of a 40?

AHA! A '72 with a 4 speed behind the 2F you say? Elementary, SirHamblett, You've got an FJ40 parking brake. Which is different from a Pig parking brake. Maybe that's why the PO didn't reattach it.

Interesting. What kind of rig up would you recommmend? Maybe that's why they didn't hook back any of the inside electical (rear window, stereo, dome light, heater) as well.

That's a fine rig up you have there, SirHamblett, a 2F and 4 speed is much preferred over what it had. It's just the minor details now. Like your e-brake. The
rear window, stereo, dome light, heater are probably unrelated. If you really do have an FJ40 parking brake, you can make it work with enough cable. But I don't know the length.

no problem. It looks like there is going to be a lot of unknowns and trial and errors. I guess that's the fun in it. Eventually you make it your own anyway.

I think brakes are a good place to start...being able to stop is sometimes more important than the ability to go. Still have 4 drums? Practice adjusting untill you can do it without the manual. Bleed the whole system unless you know it was done recently. Manual steering? Put a wrench on every nut & bolt make sure they're tight and that you know the name of what they hold down. Search "center arm adjust" and do that. When you get it to steer and stop on command, I'll have more stuff for you to do...
And don't be too quick to come up with a name for it, sometimes your Pig will let you know what to call it...

So if I want to start a worklog somewhere, what would you recommend?

I found what appears to be the brake cable in one of the boxes of parts that came with the truck, but it looks like the end that hooks to the engine mounting is missing a threaded screw and spings of some sort. Where could I find something like that?

Try an speedometer shop. They make cables running inside of housings. Some other LC vendors make longer e-brake lines. Man-a-fre, Downey, and others on this list. One of these days I will get my e-brake working:eek:

There is no parking brake  . I received my parking brake cable from SOR this past week and while trying to install it, My brother in-law and myself came to the realization that the PO never installed it back. After searching frantically through the included parts box, the brake is missing completely.
