Agreed. But unfortunately that's out of my budget, and more criminally, likely wouldn't get used to its potential.

I knew about the one axle shaft too. The debate is still whether its easier to modify the 2004 housing, or use a 98-99 and switch over the bracketry from the 2004.

I think you have to use your 2004 axle housing because the 98/99's did not have VSC/ATRAC. There are either additional wheel sensors, brake lines, or both. I believe that is what I read. Use your 2004 axle housing, one of the 2004 axle shafts, and then the diff and one axle shaft from the 98/99. I'll find the link that discussed which axle shaft you needed to use from the 98/99.

Thanks for pulling that up. I thought someone on this thread said the hubs and sensors could be moved over to the older axle? That being said, just grinding the section out of the housing may be the easier method. From the gaskets, it looks like not much needs to be ground away.

AFAIK, VSC/ATRAC uses the same wheel speed sensors as ABS... which is present in 98-99.

The thread below talks about using the 2000 or later axle housing. I thought I dug deeper and confirmed this was true but I've nothing right now. Maybe someone who owns both an elocked 98/99 and a 00-06 will take some pictures for us. Didn't VSC add the capability for it to brake the rear wheels individually to attempt to control a skid?

Yes, the 2000+ rear axle will have two individual brake lines. All the VSC stuff is controlled at the brake booster assembly.

This has been a great thread. Thanks to all. I already have the ARB dual compressor going in under the hood so I will just be using air, not E lockers. Seems like a proven solution.

Not trying to say you shouldn't do air lockers, but I believe this thread is a bit dated. Harrop/Eaton has e lockers you can throw in in the later models.
