Can anyone id what this wire harness / connector is for? It looks new compared to other more org looking connectors, but I have no idea what it is for. It is located below the MC and by the blower.

Hope the pictures helps...it is the green connector sitting out there not connected to anything.

What is it?

Looks like the harness for the voltage regulator. Perhaps you have a different alternator with a built in VR, and that's why you don't have one?

My guess would be it has something to do with the emissions control system.

I had some similar looking plugs and traced the wiring inside the car to a little black box the size of a cigarette packet with a sticker on it reading emissions control. It aslo had a relay bolted next to it.

wire with blue ? windshield washer bottle motor ?

I'll add another possibility........

Brake fluid level detector:

But my 1979 BJ40 uses a different style connector (and I'm assuming your master has been changed to one having separate reservoirs from one having a "2-in-1 style" reservoir ... like mine in the pic).
