I firmly believe in water cooled turbos and I think what you're describing would be a waste of money!

maybe yes .. in my case is an ilusion .. just windering for a race car or havy modified diesel Cruiser .. that don't like spend time after wheeling or driving ..

I think on these used turbo diesels that you never had control over the abuse for the first 15 yrs that the damage of not idling would have happened already, If not at all.

If I came off the highway under heavy boost, I would idle for 30-1 minute. Otherwise I would not bother.

These aren't fawking pianos guys! IMOP

out of the hiway under heavy boost .. I let it for far more .. at least 5 mins.

Agreed, If you are a worrier, buy yourself a turbo timer. You should probably buy a bypass filter, a pre luber, a heated fuel filter, synthetic fluids and do oil testing at each change. Personally, I drive a Cruiser because they are durable and I'll just swap the oil with whatever is on sale this week. I try to do it fairly often. I recently read that 93% of keeping an engine alive was regular oil changes. All the other gimmicks can extend the life of your engine up to 7%.

Agreed. I think 93% of the time just keeping adequete oil in there is what keeps them alive. There is a reason they are picked in most 3rd world countries. You can abuse them, flog them, and put em away wet.

That puts things in perspective - I think most of us on this forum are obsessive to varying degrees. :) (Not me of course....)

If I owned a 2L-t I would be obsessive.

But diesels were meant to be used hard for commercial service. But nothing wrong with doing the preventative measures. I just would not obsesse over them.
