My 2L now has just over 4,000km on it. Yesterday was the first time driving on the Freeway/Highway with the EGT Probe fitted into the Exhaust Pipe(not the Manifold), about 2" down from the join. EGT Gauge
On the Hume Highway towards Seymour, I got 722 C = 1331.6 F. On the return journey to Melbourne, I got 761 C = 1401.8 F.
The Fuel adjuster has not been touched.
Since the Rebuild, the Engine has always had a Miss at Wide Open Throttle, but it seems to be getting worse.
The Car can still not maintain 100km/h on the Freeway, let alone 110km/h on the Highway.
Once I started keeping an accurate tally of Fuel usage, I was surprised to be getting such good Fuel Economy.

How do I go about getting the Engine Builder to honour his Warranty? Bech & Borge

Before you go off to tackle the engine rebuilder your going to need some cold hard facts in your hand.
I can see some other more likely reasons for a high speed miss and low top speed.
I would be looking at the fuel pump or injectors and I know you had them done or tested as well.
A high speed miss could be something as simple a weak injector spring or a bad nozzle

But as to the engine rebuilder your going to need low compression, low oil pressure or some horrible knocking noise before he will even consider honouring his warranty.
Be careful, because if you blame the wrong person then it wil be harder to tackle them on other warranty issues in the future when they are at fault.

What to do? I know you have spent some money on this engine but I would strongly suggest you take it to a good diesel service centre and have them calibrate the pump ,test the injectors and get a reading off the dyno.
A compression test might also be in order.

ditto

did you notice any smoke ar hight rev/speed . ?

curious, how does a rebuilt engine (i.e. long block) develop a miss?

a miss in a diesel will have nothing to do with compression or oil pressure...

as the suggestions above recommended, check fuel, timing, bad fuel etc...

None, which makes me concerned, as I would of expected noticeable black smoke.

When waiting at Traffic Lights the EGT will get below 150 C = 302 F.

Before I fired the Engine up on Sunday at 6:30 the EGT said it was 5 C = 41 F, and it started up a bit rough. The Tank was about 90% Biodiesel and 10% Mobil.

Is it normal for Biodiesel to have a very strong Caustic Soda smell?

Nothing unusual there. When your not making power they are cool.....

did you make it yourself? If not ask the guy who made it if that is normal.... I don't think based on the ingredients it would be pleasent smelling, in fact I would expect it to be quite toxic in odour

Have you actually been behind your lux at 100kph because you wouldnt see it in the rear view mirror?;)

I thought the the caustic soda was supposed to be removed when it separates:confused:

The Injectors were reconditioned by MTQ and fitted by the Engine Builder. After the first drive, the Injectors leaked where they screw into the Head, and MTQ rectified the situation by installing new Injectors and return Pipe. http://3rdrock4x4.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=17712#17712

The Injector Pump was removed and fitted by the Engine Builder and reconditioned by a Mob in New South Wales, they sent it to.

The Engine Builder recommended AG Diesel to Tune the Engine, that I would be out of pocket for. :censor: Also, my father took my BJ40 to AG Diesel and charged something like $700 and couldn't diagnose the problems with it, once my broken Ankle was fixed, I was able to determine that the number one Injector Pipe had a fracture in it, by using the Hand Throttle to hold high Revs and and then by having a look.

fuel filter ?
With just on 4,100km and only ever having 45.42L of Biodiesel in the Tank. - I bloody hope not. :censor:

Think a little bit more in this issue .. did you notice any exhaust leak . ?
There's an Exhaust leak where the front and rear Pipes join. I bought a new front Pipe to mount the EGT Probe into, and I'll be getting a new rear Pipe made up like the original, but with a Hotdog rather than a normal Silencer.

Ok take it back to the engine rebuilder. Make them sit in the front seat next to you and show them why your pissed off;)
Just curious as to why they had to send the pump to NSW to be fixed?Surely someone in Melbourne could do that.

the first tanks of bio can wash the system and clog a filter amazingly quick.
I'd put a new one in and start from there.
Better yet put a new one in anf feed it from a separate bottle of fresh diesel (both feed and return lines) and see what kind of difference it makes.
