I used vampire clamps that vampires sucked my blood... I believe the theory is amazing and sound but I would do it under the hood and not vampire clamp s*** by the ECU because I used red ones and it ended up cutting through the wire so deep that I ended up with other issues(ECT and IAT sensor. I’d say get the relay off of a GMC/Chevy trailblazer Mid to late 90s. They have a weatherproof relay that lives on the firewall on the passenger side by the heater box grab it with the pigtail and wire that is under the hood and for the 12 V power get it from a switch 12 V circuit for the ECU like maybe off of the main relay or something I haven’t figured that out just yet but I just soldered my wires back together after the vampire clamp tried to poke me in the butt... Just my two cents but I really believe that would be the smart way to go

For what it’s worth I’m heading to my back up engine to pull the EGR/ellEGT temp sensor and EGR solenoid... Because that did not feel good and really pooped in my cereal😝

1 day and I made it pass

It was the timed Manifold vac port which was the main issue since of it had vac my prior attempts would have resolved it fwiw

gents, @SuperHatch, @AppleTech
i've got a 97 lx 450 studying these threads as i try to solve a p0401 EEC code in the hopes of getting inspected and registered with new plates. right now i am looking at the "resistor mod".
the issue i am having is this "readiness state" apparently not being recoverable after doing the resistor mod when you already have an error code? i'd like to retain readiness. actually i'd really like to retain readiness. but if i do the mod i will lose readiness i guess and i am concerned i am not going to be able to follow these step.
is there a plug in type product that could be produced to help some of us noobs with this? something that could be sold? is there a more concise write up that would make it easier for some of us? i'm having a hard time following a lot of this i have to admit. anything that could be put together that we could pass around and share?!
just trying to get a handle on this but feeling like i need to get an electrical engineering degree to not mess it up.
thansk for any help.

If you were ready lol there wouldn’t be a p401...

Ran it until the CEL went away, then disconnected the relay unit and installed a 4.7k ohm resistor in place of the sensor. Didn't seem wise to leave the relay connected long term as it w as constantly firing on and off depending on throttle position.

Will repost diagram shortly - sorry my server is in a state of flux.
I am in the process of designing a solid state device that will replace the clicking relay. It can be wired in permanently and will keep the ECU satisfied and "Ready"

Since my state does not do inspections and since the 4.7K resister is working well I am not bothering on a solid state device;
