I got this land cruiser a year ago on eBay. Had it delivered and it’s been sitting in my warehouse. 1991 land cruiser.

the previous owner rewired it, I think, to bypass the EFI fuse. When you disconnect the bypass when you try and crank it the EFI fuse blows and you can’t start the vehicle

I took pictures of what’s going on.

if you leave the bypass in, it will start bit doesn’t run great.

Anyone have any ideas what to try here? I don’t know much about wiring on these rigs. I have plenty of parts to “throw” at it if anyone has any ideas.

First thing I would do is figure out what that external relay is for, because it looks like the PO had very little skill. Anything coming out of the bottom of the main fuse/relay box under the hood is suspect.

If a fuse is constantly popping, then there's a short in that system that needs to be fixed before going further.
O2 sensor wiring is probably the first thing I would check, as it's prone to damage from unskilled exhaust "specialists". However, it appears that some "special" wiring mods were done by the PO.

Get a set of factory manuals and make it right.

Hi, I agree with Jon. Also look at the battery connections and fuseable links there. Remove breakers ,add one at a time and crank, when breaker blows you have found your problem circuit. Well at least one of them! Mike

Yes when I first got it I unplugged each o2 sensor and it still blew the fuse. Should I just remove all of the po’s handiwork and start from scratch? I just don’t really know the steps to take to figure this out. It seems like PO was bypassing the EFI fuse.

And what do you mean by “make it right”? Sorry guys I’m very much a novice when it comes to wiring. I’m more of a remove and replace kind of guy. My electrical diag powers are non existent.

FSM and associated wiring diagrams will help to figure out what PO was trying to do with that relay and then given good insight in how to figure out what is actually causing the shortage once you get the wiring back to normal. At this point it is unclear if the running rough problem is related to the electrical stuff or something else. Jon has the information for getting FSM in his signature.

Until you reverse engineer what the PO did, this is all speculation.
"Make it right" means simply to make take it back to original, unmolested design. From the pictures you posted, a relay and a fuse were added for something.
That 15 amp fuse that's hanging in the breeze out of the fuse panel by the driver's left knee is in what would be the FOG LAMP fuse position. It is unused in US spec and I'm not sure where the feed comes from, but it is likely ignition hot. That fuse appears to be feeding the mystery relay.
Again, without proper testing, this is all speculation.
