its a fuel cutoff solenoid. it turns your vehicle off, you'll see it behind your injector pump its the black lump with an arm that moves in or out when you start it. Im not sure but maybe it stands for electric diesel injection cutoff or something. can anyone remember if its an Abreviation?

EDIC

You got it right, except for the C.

Of course, I can't remember if it is for Computer or Control. I know it's not cutoff because the EDIC also controls fuel load at start, drive and shutdown. When you adjust your fuel using the screw/nut thing, you are adjusting the position the EDIC arm puts the valve that controls fuel for the drive and start positions.

TMI, but I thought I'd give my .02

why are you concerned about your edic are you having problems with it ? i think 9 out of 10 problems with the edic are not directly related to the edic itself ,but its sub systems at least thats what i have found for my self any way .

My edic was disconnected by the po.

Does this mean I cant "turn up the diesel" with out it? (adding turbo)

They are not related.

The edic(electronic diesel injection control, I think) only controls starting and shutdown, including low oil pressure protection.

Turning up your fuel is an adjustment on the injection pump.

Lots of threads on it here. Some with decent pics and how to's..

May smarter minds correct me if I'm wrong.

On the nut where you adjust the fuel, you should see the attachment point where the EDIC arm connects to the EDIC motor. I guess you wouldn't need to have it attached, but adjusting the fuel is an adjustment of the pumps position during drive. If you have the EDIC connected , it will affect this adjustment.

To simplify, from my understanding, the EDIC has a different fuel load setting for start than from drive. You may have some start up issues without the EDIC connected, even if the fuel is well adjusted for drive. Just something to think about.

Does the EDIC motor work? You may want to reconnect it if it works well as it is a good way to start and shut down your rig.

Good points.

Can you post a picture of this manual set up how it relates to your Injection pump.

I too would rather have a functioning edic system than try to go manual. Manual fuel shut off doesn't impress me. I like the auto functions of it all.

pretty simple .. just push the gas pedal :D to start.
