EDIC Motor Relay (1 Viewer)

Hi All,

So, I was wondering if anyone has any good pictures of the EDIC motor relay for a 1985 BJ70 with a 3B engine? I've got a new motor but the arm is not changing position so I wanted to check if the relay was shot. I looked around on the forums but cannot find a good description for or picture of the relay and its location for the '85 BJ70 with a 3B engine. Could be stupid and blind though

It's almost always the fuel control relay. Water often gets into the relay box and causes the circuit to fail. Sometimes they can be repaired by cleaning the circuit board or re-soldering any poor connections.

The relay is usually located in a kick panel.

Okay great! Will the relay be labelled? If not, do you have a picture of what it looks like? Also, which kick panel? I looked where the fuses were, but nothing.

Yes, all relays are labeled. It's a box, silver in colour, called a Fuel Control Relay.

Try the other side.

Thanks! Found it and the thing was just unplugged, lol. Plugged it back in and she's running great -- though now I've got loads of black smoke when I accelerate --> not sure why...

Might be stuck in the over-injection position. If you pull off the control rod between the EDIC motor and the pump and that reduces your smoke, then it's in the over-inject position.

If you have an engine manual, have a look at it to see what i mean.

I don't think that is the issue as I checked it's position while off, starting and while idling and the positions all look correct. Anyone know any shops in Calgary with cruiser experience?

just try screwing the fuel stopper in a turn or two until you start loosing power , or the spring in the stopper may be sized or broken. This is located on the back of the pump under the arm the edit hooks to. It has a funny lock nut and may still have a lock wire in. Clockwise ,in,less fuel .
