Hey guys, I am having problems getting my windsheild vent to seal. The backing plate for the flapper is uneven in two parts(first pic). You can see that the middle of the rib sticks out farther than the ends. This is causing the flap to bow and not seal against the windsheild frame. Any ideas on how to fix this, should I just beat the hell out of it with a BFH? The second pic is of the back side of the main rib. Thanks.

Chase, I don't think anything as extreme as a BFH is required here. Those parts should bend in your hands, assuming you're not a namby-college boy!;p

But seriously, a water-tight vented windshield frame is a myth. I am starting to fix up a replacement 66 windshield frame for my 64 that I can swap on in the winter. I am getting tired of using duct tape when it rains!

I can bend the flap peice but not that rib. The middle rib is the only peice that is bent, the rest of the peice is perfectly flat which makes me confused. Oh well, I guess Ill just have to put more muscle into it. :flipoff2: I was using silicone to fix the leaks but was getting tired of it. I guess I need to just use more.:D

Chase, when Jim Sickles at Downey Off Road did his swb45, he didn't even want to TRY to deal with the vent issue and he just welded the windshield vent shut with a flat plate of metal.

I think I have his old vent flap somewhere.;)

I was able to find a fresh rubber and mine seems to be fairly watertight. It's the rubber that seals it. How's your's, Chase?

Its new rubber from SOR(reproduction stuff). It leaks worse than before. The rubber looks about the same thickness as the old. The rubber doesnt even hit at some parts because the metal isnt putting pressure on it. We'll see what I can do to it tomorrow. Thanks for the help, and grim news guys.:D

Well, i fixed the raised portion of the rib.I put two huge washers on either side a bolt thought the center pulled the rib lower by slowly tightening a nut on either end. Worked great. Now when it rains I will see how well I fixed the leak.:D

Well it rains a lot up here so I dont think that I will have to wait long. I need to get a stud brazed back on one of the trim peices for the vent, it broke off when I took the vent out.

I got it all back together today. I sprayed it hard with the hose and only a little bit of water came through. I think that it will seal out the rain. We'll see though.:D
