i know this isn't the right place to post but i know i don't usually check the others so...

hey guys i'm from texas and i'm part of tlca and i'm in new york right now. my problem is my friend is in austin looking at buying a 67 bronco, she's a girl, she doesn't know what to look for when buying an old car, and i am her help with these things but i'm not there so...
does anyone know a good honest reputable mechanic in austin that knows old 4X4 vehicles and could tell her if it's worth buying?

anything would be appreciated, and i'm not asking for a handout she'll pay for an inspection or something.

just trying to help out a friend, i know you cruiser guys understand.

the early early broncos did not come with PS or discs. They started in 73 i think. Also, it is probably 3 on the tree. I have had 2 early broncos ( both 1970) and loved them. One had a floor shifter installed.

What motor is in it. They came with a 289, which is a very good engine and the more desirable, or a 6, I can't remember if the six was the 200 or the 260.

i posted the pics at

if you could check them out. i know it's hard with pics, but i appreciate your help.
the owner is asking $8,900 for it. the tranny is a 3 on the floor. 289 that was rebuilt 5 years ago, and the vehicle was restored 5 years ago and painted so we don't know what's under the paint but i've had her look for rust and told her what to look for and it seems to be ok.
thanks

I really can't make an opinoin on the price due to where I live. Check Auto Trader. It looks as though it has a couple of inches of lift on it and the rear quarters have been cut, which detracts from stock value. The 289's are very strong engines, most prefere them over the later 302, and will return decent gas milage. It should have a 2bbl carb on it. I like the OEM radio. The roof is easily removable and soft tops can be had for them. What i like most about the bronco is its size. Large enough to get 4 people and camping gear in, yet still a short wheel base. The full width tail gate is great for camping as well. I noticed it has the duel tanks and a rear tire carrier on it. You know the windshield folds down on those too. And Christi is hot.

My Dad has a 66, around here 8900 is a little high, i would try for 7000, the stock drum brakes suck, but the Dana 30 outers are the same as the dana 44 outers, so chevy disks bolt on. the rear's are ok, but so far dad is happier since we put eldorado disk on the rear. keep the hard top, soft tops are noisy for a daily driver.

My brother has a 76. It has power steering but no power brakes. He paid $6k for it back in 2003. I worked on it for about 3 weeks to get some of the problems worked out. The PO was more worried about how it looked than how it ran. (He wired AROUND the fuse block!!)

There is a solenoid you can get to replace the manual fuel tank selector that works with the fuel gauge selector switch., so you switch tanks when you switch gauges. My brother ran out of gas a couple of times when he had the gauge on one tank and the selector on the other.

There are several good websites for parts but they are VERY expensive, approx. 3 times what the equivalent cruiser parts are. A lot of parts are just not available, unless you go on ebay.

Check out www.wildhorses4x4.com and broncoparts.com websites for parts and broncoholics.com for info/tech stuff.

Christie's going to be pissed when she finds out what it's like to drive in Austin traffic...

between May and September...

without air or with sketchy late 60s a/c.

So . . . if daddy's way rich so that she can have a cute square truck as a play toy, then she must buy it because it looks pretty good on her.

honest reputable mechanic...
Edwin owns Land Cruiser Specialist/LCS Offroad in Pflugerville

To bad I don't live in Texas, I'd gladly give her my opinion. I think She'd look best in MY Land cruiser.

texas77fj40: actually chisti is all on her own paying the bills . . .
SNEEZE

If you translate that from Nasal to English on Babelfish, it comes out to something like "boollsheet!" ;)

By the way texas77fj40, do you know who owns that red (waaaay oxidized) and white pig with a canoe perpetually strapped to the roof parked at a house on Shooting Club Road in Boerne?
