Jon:

You don't need me to tell you that is a beautiful truck.

As to the PS issues.... Are you having the issue more at low speed or high? I have been looking at a PS cooler (I've got one nearly identical to yours, just on the right side) and I'm kind of thinking about cutting a louver or two in the fan shroud to allow air to flow from the grill and through the PS cooler. On Dad's 40 there's maybe 1/2" of room between the radiator core and the core support in the front, so there'd be quite a bit of airflow.

Dan

Thanks Dan.

The PS leaking seems to be happening when I turn the wheels to lock one way or another. It might also be happening when I drop the idle and need to force the wheel. I'm not sure. I'm looking at adding additional cooling to the PS line. I'll probably just bend up some hard line like Toyota does and route it below the radiator along the frame. This will be in addition to the cooler I currently have.

I find it difficult to believe that "additional" cooling will help the PS situation. Is it not possible to simulate the conditions in which it leaks? I would suspect a hard line crack that doesn't leak unless it's under increased pressure (like trying to turn more when locked...) and then the increased pressure inside opens up the crack.

There is a second option. The return line on the gear box is a small hard line. I also suspected it could also be cracked. But like I said, it will take a second pair of eyes to know for sure.

I didn't take very many pictures. Sorry. Too busy driving.

Now that right there is camouflage....I can barely make out the 40 :D

Good thing Greg got the reverse rotation fan figured out before that trip.;)

These shakedown runs are part of the fun of building. I had less than 500 miles on my fj-60 with a junkyard tbi 350, new NV4500, 24 year old 3-speed cruiser t-case (not rebuilt), and freshly built/geared dana 60 axles with 36" swampers when 3 of us loaded up and headed off for 1800 mile trip to SLC from TN. Aside from replacing the fuel filter a few times for rust, it was trouble-free.

The return trip to TN wasn't so trouble free. That 24-year old t-case decided to come to shreds trailering my fj45. I made it to Cheyenne where I put the 45's t-case in it's place and made it home. There were lots of teeth missing inside that case, it was ugly.

I may be correct but can't stand in judgement. With less than 200 miles on the V8 install and the motor itself, we loaded up the truck and headed for Sedona for Christmas (did Broken Arrow) and then met the group for the Canyon de Chelly trip. Travelled with W & K late at night by ourselves on the trip out and back. A failure could have been a real problem given how friggin cold it was.
