I doubt a bent bellcrank as those are pretty beefy. I've had the cable slip off the rocker thingy and then the rocker thingy get messed up. Sounds like your bellcranks are sticky too.

aluminum and steel and water...nasty mix

that design was poor and the usual culprit of bad ebrake situations in places that get rain or snow...

The 1st time I cleaned, oiled and adjusted them ,all was fine.
Then when they started to jam again 12 months later, cleaning and oiling made no difference this time.

The bellcranks seem to move freely when you disconnect the cable and operate them by hand but my hands cant pull on them as tight as the cable can.
I was wondering if they are worn and moving slightly sideways or twisting when the cable pulls them.

Hopefully all will be revealed when I pull them apart this time

i use water resistant grease on them...

Generally dirt and water is not a problem. Here, most of the wheeling is done almost pure silica sand and brakes drums just need a bang with a rubber mallet to make them fall off.
We have to be quick to find mud holes before they dry up and ALSO share them with 300 other mud starved offroaders:D
Both my cruisers(and one is an 88) still have a lot of the original paint underneath:D

I used general purpose grease and applied it to all the spots outlined in the manual.
But I do have some w/proof grease around here somewhere and I might give it a go next time.

This is the puddle where it all started:D
It also killed a Jeeps electronic gizmo and it had to be towed home with a Nissan dieselLOL
The jeep owner had no tools and none of the 6-7 diesel landcruiser/nissan owners that stopped to help had a spark plug wrench:D

lol The troopy driver was an instructor teaching recruits how to wheel. The SES is a volunteer organisation that gets new landcruisers and Isuzu 4wd trucks supplied by the govt and then auctioned off at 30k klm
They usually have factory lockers, Warn winch, water tank and roof rack with work lights.

We couldnt diagnose the jeeps problem at the time but later on I read they have some electronic part that dies easily if wet.
It had all the symptoms
