Thanks for the word of caution RobB.

Believe it or not, the engine is pretty well balanced with the offset I am using on the engine stand adapter. This should keep it from spinning out of control if I need to rotate the engine to work on it a bit.

The stand is a Torin Big Red 1000 and it says that it is rated to 1000 lbs. I hope that is strong enough. Just to be safe, I will put some cinder blocks under the hanging end to provide more support when I have to replace the exhaust manifolds.

DO NOT SPIN THAT ENGINE ALONE!! You think it's balanced it isn't! It will flop over on it's top and you are not going to stop it. I know from experience. If you need to spin it and no one is around use your engine hoist with a chain to do it. You sure would hate to drop it off the stand. You can do all the tear down on the stand they work real well for that purpose. You may as well strip of that harness and ECU even if you are going to wire it yourself or send it out.

I definitely won't spin the engine alone. Using the engine hoist is a great idea when turning the engine. Thanks Iaintscared.

I'll take the advice and take the wiring harness off.

Another question for you pros out there:

I've got to keep all of the smog stuff intact and I saw that the painless wiring harness only has wiring for 2 of the 4 oxygen (O2) sensors. Is there a wiring harness that is set up for 4?

Is there anything else that I would need to know about selecting a harness?

I'm pretty savvy with electronics, so I want to have full adjustability of the ECM system and an interface for my laptop so I can see and adjust stuff on the fly. I'm not looking for a set and forget system. Can anyone recommend a wiring harness and software system that is fully customizable?

Call Jeff @ fuel Injection Specialties they can hook you up with ECU reprogram and a harness for the whole application built to your specs.
