Oh We get wind noise, i assumed it was from the expanded metal.

I have had luck with the pads that people use for surf boards or foam insulation for water pipes. It's the wind coming off the wind shield hitting the front bars making the noise. I have made a few of these racks over the years.

My son doesn't seem to care. He just likes the rack and is excited to have one!
