DVD/CD player getting REALLY hot!

On a 9 hour drive to NY my DVD / CD player gave me an error and quit. I noticed it was giving off a ton of heat and when I ejected the cartridge I nearly burned my hand on the metal inside. It continued to generate heat for the next two hours even with the cartirdge out and console wide open. Today I drove another eight hours without using the CD player and it never got hot. Ever heard of this one?

I don't have the changer, but is it located in the center console? If it is, maybe you've got an exhaust leak underneath that area?

Sorry for the year old bump...

I'm having the same issue on my wife's 2004 LC with the center console CD changer.

Is there a fan in there that is supposed to keep things cool? The changer seriously malfunctions when it overheats.

Any ideas would be appreciated.
