    Can stainless bolts be painted as easily as steel? If I rattle can my tub and go over the stainless bolts will they hold paint as well?

    I don't want a bunch of shiny bolt heads all over the Cruiser...

    Metal is metal. So long as they are primed paint will stick.
    The advantage to stainless is that its a medium. In order for rust to form it needs an anode, a cathode and a path capable of ion flow. Stainless steel in neither anodic nor cathodic so it wont cause rust around the metal it is fastened to, and it wont corrode itself.
    Damn, I almost sound like I know what the hell I am talking about.

    Have fun painting that stainless steel. Let us know how it turns out. Not all metal is created equal.

    Does regular primer work on stainless? I'll bet the paint peels off the bolt heads the second time you hit it with a pressure washer.

    I'll bet it would work with adequate prep and some 3M Metal Prep or some good self etching primer. But I'd have no problem with some shiney SS fasteners showing.

    Matt;
    I've got some SS bolt heads that protrude on the skirt above the fender that I use to support some ignition gizmos. I have a rattle can with the correct color for my FJ40 and just spay it on. Been there for years.
