now was that at the dugas rd or the FR 16.

crossing at dugas is a little more rugged, have you done it lately? last year when i was last there the FS had the gate locked, and it was pretty evident they hadnt done any road maintenance in several years heading down off the mesa, pretty good ruts washed out the heavy rains two years ago, yeah it looked that neglected. you might want to check and see if its open.

yeah id love to try and see if we can cross at dugas. but well see if not its a back track to the FR16 but thx all the same it should be interesting now with teh lack of water weve had. even though im not thrilled in any way about crossing any river. love toodling in the mud and smaller creeks and what not but rivers thats a whole diffrent story

28 cfs ? that's practically empty

even when it's 100 cfs at Camp Verde, you'll have to drag the canoe quite a few times

Looking forward to this trip report as I "Google Earthed" it a few weeks back. Crossing at Childs should be a breeze, it was barely knee-deep when I camped there over Memorial Day. Too much stuff going on around here for me to tag along. Have fun.

will post pics soon. however the rod out from dugas EASY 2wd but definitly high clerance and an occosional 4low part just so you didnt wear out or breakes and very very slow going. started off rather easy ..straight.. a few switch backs then it got a lil hairy..pleanty of overgrowth on the trail so all you heard was scraping and screetching from all the az pinstripping and after awhile you got a lil tunnel vision.due to it... and a few other off camber spots on a cliff side of the mountain on your way down to the verde river. and the extreamly narrowness of the road ..we were just thinking our lucky stars no one else was comeing up that road. once got to the childs the road was closed ....however we found a lil area to cross... water was hardly moving and frankly the depth of the water couldnt of been about a foot or foot n half deep at both childs and the fR16 crossings. but the place we crossed at childs was a narrow 20 feet of river to cross. and then camped on the other side that night. all in all it was a fun ride but next time i do it i wont be loaded down with camping gear and hopefully bigger tires

good to hear you made it,,, that little stretch of dugas road down is hairy aint it. so its still technically closed but your able to drive round?

id say the drive from the highway to childs took a good 4-5 hours that was with a lunch break... we probally averaged a good 5+ MPH. and yes even though the road was closed we just sent some one ahead to walk it and figuered lets cross it now while we can. mind you sunday morning we decided to head out through the fossel creek road and come out through camp verde. most ppl in our party had to leave all at diffrent times and in diffrent directions and figuered this was the best way out for every one...and mind you due too some ass-munch teenagers on the road that were barreling down fossel creek road playing hogs of the road in there lil rice burner civics and one 80's buick damn near had a head on collision on a blind turn and almost put my self in to mountain. jack asses they are it was a rather pleasent drive back...but once we got into CV and had my victory Dairy Queen Blizzard(Pecan Cluster w/ Reeses cups...yummy) all was good it was home ward bound
