Got a buddy thats dead set on doing a dual battery set up. So he sends me a drawing of it. Its not set up like any other dual battery write up ive looked at. Just want to run it by a few of you guys that have done dual batteries and done plenty of research and see what you think of it and whether its a good plan. Dont want him to burn his truck down, leave him stranded, or not do what it he intends it to to do.

from what I gather, thats the solenoid in between the 2nd battery and starter. Dont understand the momentary switch? or whatever it is.

Yes this is a pretty common setup, very simple and safe. Just make sure the relay is rated for continuous duty and at least 100amps depending on the size of your alternator. Batteries are automatically isolated when the truck is off, thereby eliminating the need for a battery isolator.

I got my kit through 12VoltGuy.com at

I use his 200 Amp rated Continuous Duty relay because I have a 270 Amp alternator and routinely charge at a rate exceeding 100 amps during/after winching or after using accessories with the engine off.

thanks dude. At least now I wont have to worry.
