I'm picking up a good used 2F with 56K miles. I buyingit today and it should be complete from fan to bellhousing and air cleaner to drain plug. It is a 79' engine and Gary who is selling it to me, is to desmog the thing as I don't want ant emissions bulls*** on it.

Any recommendations on droping this sucker in? I bought it without a complete engine and wanted to forego the rebuild deal.

Will there be any wiring differences from the 78' body to the 79' engine.

I will replace the timing cover gasket as it is supposed to be leaking, and a valve cover gasket for good measure.

Any other things I should check or replace? Water pump, thermostat, etc.???

Thank you fine gentlemen Kenn

Keep some of the smog bulls*** on it if you are running the '79 carb and distributor, because it isn't really smog bulls***; it is first generation engine control and your engine will run better with the throttle positioner and power valve functioning normally.

The things that you can loose with impunity are the air injection and the EGR valve although I don't think that it is worth the effort to turn the wrenches.

I bough it for less than asking price without the smog pump and air rail. Gary pluged the air rail holes. however there is a large mass of steel tubes on top. I had plannned on removal with proper guidence from someone.

I don't need smog for Md emissions. does the pump make that big a difference as all it does is circulate exhaust and air back into the intake????

Am I way off. I don't know as I'm an old time chuck the pipes and pumps***.
I grew up with 70's muscle cars. All we did was repipe the ness. plumbing and retune the carb...

Any advice????

would this be the same for a 74 cali emissions truck or could those (74 F motor) smog parts be removed from the 74 F? (sorry for the hijack)

I've seen so many conflicting posts here in search.
I think the Chenoworth fellow in Indiana would be the person to consult.
I think I'm going to send him a carb to have redone and get the de-smog data from him.

I'm concerned about the differences with the distributor curve and vaccum advance. I understand that there are two line for my vac. adv. one for curve advance and another for alititude, But I'm not 100% sure.

Good Luck Kenn

Close. Jim lives in Ohio. But he is THE GUY to solve the problems you're facing.
