Hi

I need to lengthen and shorten some toyota driveshafts for truck project. I'm in Seattle. Any suggestions on pricing and good shops in seattle?

The local guys swear by Fleetpride, on 6th Ave S., south of Spokane Street about 1/4 of a mile.

I recently had mine done at Drivelines NW

311 South Brandon Street, Seattle, WA
(206) 622-8760

I had mine shortened, new ujoints installed, and a CV rebuild done on the rear shaft (using a mini truck shaft). I paid about $500 for both, however I requested they skip the precision balance (it was an extra $120) on the rear shaft and I now plan to take it back for that. I didn't have the front shaft balanced either, but since I don't use it at any kind of speed I think it's fine. Get your rear shaft balanced at the least.

The guys at the shop were very knowledgeable and the work was done fast. They were ready the following day.

It was more $$$ than I expected to pay, but the next closest place was in Tacoma. I didn't feel like heading that direction. Don't think I would have saved enough money anywhere else to make the trip worth it anyway.

Fleetpride was my first choice. They were right up the street from Drivelines NW. I went there first, but they no longer do drive shafts in Seattle. They send them to Tacoma or you have to go there yourself. I had some customizing that needed to be done so I wanted to talk the the techs in person.

IH8DrivelinesNW. At least the Everett shop. I've heard better reviews about other locations, but for the price they charge, I'd call Tom Woods or High Angle.

Best Drivelines is in Everett. Greg is a wheeler. (425)513-8182

Cheap prices, decent quality, quick turnaround. I had one shortened, one lengthened (complete re-tube), and both balanced for ~$150. Some people have had poor experiences with Greg, but mine was great. YMMV.

To the south, local wheelers recommend:
Aukeen driveshaft in Kent (253) 395-0392
Dean at Bent Metal Customs Bent Metal Customs--Official web site for Dean Detweiler, Puyallup WA
Dave at Advanced Driveline in Yelm
Fleetpride in Tacoma
Drivelinetech in Portland

To the north:
Ritch at Driveline Service in Bellingham (360) 734-7828

But seriously, if you can afford to wait 3 days for shipping from Tom Woods, call him and see what his price is. Lots of guys have found a complete new shaft from him to be cheaper than getting a used shaft re-tubed.

Thanks for all the replies.

Who is tom wood and what is his contact information? where is he located.

cheers

I actually ordered some drive shaft flanges from Tom's shop. Good people.

+1 I ordered a custom rear d/s from him. He took the time to talk with me personally, got all my info, sent me an excellent product in about a week. He followed up with an e-mail asking how it worked and if I had any questions. Top notch product and service from Tom Wood.
