DOT Windshield mfg/location Code

Something I did not know is that the US DOT has a windshield code that identifies their approved windshield manufactures - by company and country location.

So my Landcruiser windshield is from a well known windshield company Shat-R-Proof (US-based company), but the DOT459 code tells me it was made by the Fujian Yanhua Glass co. in Honglu, China !!. I wondered why a US windshield manufacturer would bother making a windshield for a vehicle that was never imported into the USA. I suspect now Shat-R-Proof is just a umbrella supplier of windshields made by a range of others. How about yours ?

The DOT stamp is not a requirement for BC. All legal windshields must have an AS1 stamp and all rear and side glass must have an AS2 stamp. If the glass is stamped with DOT but does not have the other stamp, it does not meet the BC requirements to be legally on the road. So be careful that if you need replacement glass for your vehicle (especially JDM) that it is stamped properly.
