One of the tab that are glued to the bottom of the door glass broke off on the DS window of my truck. Toyota does not sell just the tab, they want me to buy the whole window.
Aside from the fact that I refuse to pay $250 to get a $5 part the replacement window won't match the tinting on the other windows. Does any body know where I can get the part I need?
I have already considered getting a junk yard window but I don't know how I would get the tab off without breaking it.

The rest of the story

So the tabs show up. They still had shards of glass and adhesive filling the slot. Since I had a pair and only needed the front one I sacrificed the rear figuring out a way to clean the slot out. FYI using a utility knife cleans everything out but also cuts the little ridges that center the glass off.

What I found that worked was to put my angle grinder in the vice with a cutting blade in it and grind a groove through the center of the glass stuck in the slot until I hit the glue on the bottom. Then I used a jewelers screwdriver to gently clean the little grooves between the ridges out. If you are not a patient person forget trying this operation just spend $250 to buy a new window. It took me about 1.5 hours to get the majority of the old glue and glass out, there are a lot of little ridges on each side of the tab slot.

I don't know what year the replacement part came off of but it is about 3X as long as the original, which meant I couldn't use the old glue marks as a reference to install the "new" part. What I did was pack the slot with glue (provided free by the glass shop I use.) then install it on the window regulator. Then I installed the window and secured the rear tab to the regulator. I rolled the window up to seat the glass in the tab and haven't touched it since. I'll test it out tonight and re-install the door panel etc. if all is well.

What a pain!

I originally thought you had found a source of new Tabs which would have been a huge help to people with this problem.

I wonder if these "Tabs' could be easily machined out of plastic stock.

Maybe, if you could find the right plastic. But I doubt it would be less labor intensive, unless you had a CNC mill and could do enough volume to justify the set-up.
