To lube your sunroof! My truck smells pretty foul right now. Got in after lubing the tracks last night and almost lost it. Slides great, but smells bad. Hope it goes away soon. I might try and wipe/clean out what I put on there and use something different. Any suggestions as to what I should use that doesn't smell like goat ass!?

What do you guys think about using a Silicon grease? They resist washout pretty well and a wide range of temperatures. We use Silicon grease to keep calipers from siezing on ATV's.

Doesn't stink and stays put for a long time. Low reaction to moisture which is why it is also called "Dielectric grease". Funny how many chemicals are just repacked with a new flashy name to promote consumer giddy-ness.

I really like silicone grease for electrical contacts, battery connectors, lighting connectors, exterior antenna cable connectors and to lube rubber and plumbing parts (hose connections). It really sticks and won't wash off, but it is not as slippery as some other types of grease. My favortite brand for stability over time is Dow Corning #111, it's pretty stiff like regular silicone seal but there are more fluid formulations avilable.

Also Lubraplate (white grease) works exellent and dont stank.

You're screwed. That smell isn't going away anytime soon even if you cleaned it off yesterday. The only thing worse than your problem is bearing grease on hot exhaust. :whoops:

Lube

Try Triflow it is a teflon based lube it works pretty good for stuff like that.

I used white lithium grease a couple years ago on the 93. It shuts more tightly I think because the ramped sections that press the seals slide nicely. I was careful to clean and wipe out the old grease first to remove the 140,000 miles of grit and stiff old grease.

Thanks for the advice. For now I put some "odor absorbing granules" that I got from my uncle. He sells industrial chemicals and such. This is designed for dumpsters and other stanks. Once the Nor'Easter passes I'll go up there with a rag and brush to remove as much as possible and reapply something from one of the above suggestions. Probably the Mobil 1 since I have some. I don't know what I was thinking when I walked over to the shelf with both Penzoil wheel bearing grease and Mobil 1 grease and decided the Penz was a better choice! Oh well. Live and learn. Wont do that one again. :)
