Lilly is a (probably) 3 year old Shar Pei mix we rescued from roaming the streets, and she has obviously been abused. She needs a good home where she can receive the love, attention and training she truly deserves.
She is bite inhibited, but has a few behavior problems - can periodically be food and crate aggressive. I honestly believe this can be broken (we've already made big improvements and neither of us really know what we’re doing). She also needs to be socialized more (something neither my wife nor I have the time for). She can be stubborn (but gives up very quickly for a treat) and appears to be quite smart.
Lilly usually has a serious demeanor, but then out of no-where, becomes very silly and plays like a puppy – it’s hysterical and so much fun. I really believe some training and socialization could turn her into an absolute dream dog.
Lilly does seem to like the neighborhood kids, and she plays well with our german shorthair pointer (but needs more socialization with other dogs).
Lilly has been fixed, chipped and has all her shots. She is house trained and walks very (surprisingly) well on a leash.
I’m hoping to find a true dog lover with patience. Lilly might even be a great dog for a single woman that has some experience with larger dogs and might want protection/deterrent from the bad guys. She seems protective and has the absolute most wicked growl and bark I've ever heard.
All of that said, Lilly is an extremely sweet & affectionate dog. She loves curling up next to you and resting her little head on you. She's not the right dog for anyone, but could be perfect for the right person.
Writing all this makes me unbelievably sad. Lilly is such a sweet dog and has become part of the family over the last 6 months or so. But, my wife losing her job, baby on the way, downsizing our house to a much smaller one, etc makes this the right (albeit extremely painful) decision.
Please contact me if you'd like further information or pass this along if you know someone who might be interested.
Thanks,
Skip
ps- I want to be clear. finding Lilly a good and loving home is of utmost importance - feels like I'm betraying a family member. please don't be offended, but I'm going to want to have a very serious discussion about ability to care for her.
Here's a video of Lilly playing with out GSP... YouTube - Lilly and Dexter
And some pictures...
