At the SEMA 2019 show, Dobinsons showed off their new Dobinsons IMS shocks, so I'm starting this thread to give the details about these new shocks from Dobinsons that are starting to arrive in March 2020, and the fronts coming later in Spring/Summer. Why is this important for the 100 Series and LX470? Because Dobinsons doesn't offer a MRR or MRA front shock for these with the external reservoir due to design restrictions. With this new IMS design, now it's an option.

I guess IRMS sounded silly, and considering the already existing MRR (Monotube Remote Resi), a non-resi version didn't sound right either, this is the wording Dobinsons are going with.

In a nutshell, the IMS struts and shocks are almost the same as the MRR/MRA but with an IFP (Internal Floating Piston) inside the shock body with a small gas reservoir, and no external hose or reservoir. Same monotube body size, piston diameter, and shaft thickness. Super easy installation, no different than a twin tube.
These do not have any valving adjustment.

From the manufacturer:
Dobinsons IMS Monotube Shock Absorbers are designed for next level performance over Twin Tube Shocks in those hot, harsh, demanding conditions. By utilising the Monotube design, Dobinsons IMS Shock Absorbers are able to resist fade far longer on corrugated roads, long or hard working 4WD trips, towing or racing conditions.

The larger 50 and 60mm high flow pistons reduce internal pressures, reduce the heat generated, transfer heat to the body for faster cooling and offer improved damping performance and vehicle control at higher shaft speeds on rough terrain and during big impacts. Threaded bodies on struts allow for fine tuning of height and offer further improvements in cooling.
The micro-polished, hard chromed and heat treated shock shaft, CNC aluminium high flow race inspired piston, and DOM seamless tubing body provides the ultimate in performance and off-road durability.

Composite piston wear bands and a race style 3-stage sealing system offer the lowest levels of friction whilst maintaining durability and longevity. Dobinsons team of engineers spend hundreds of hours of testing and tuning
the shim stacks and damping characteristics in each IMS Shock to ensure a balance of comfort, handling, vehicle control and offroad performance - Enjoy the ride

IMS59-60782 - Front IMS for 0-1.5" lift - 100 Series
IMS59-60786 - Front IMS for 1.5"-2.5" lift - 100 Series - due mid November 2020. These are extended travel and do require a proper diff drop kit and UCA's so that CV's aren't over extended and proper travel can be achieved.
IMS59-60682 - Rear IMS for 0-3" lift - 100 Series

Really excited to hear some real world experience and feedback on these! I like the price point too, I’ll be following along

interested as well......

yes... very interested

Rear shocks are now in stock, they arrived today. Still waiting on production and shipping date of the fronts.

How does an owner go about rebuilding and/or revalving IMS shocks?

You'd send them back to Dobinsons (Miammi) or to any shock rebuilder for that work. It's not something you're likely to do at home due to the specialty tools required.

Any update on when the front ones will be out?

For the longer travel front shocks, do you know at all by when they would come? I'm in the process of buying parts for a lift and just need to choose shocks for my failing AHC system.

Also, how much more travel does it give over a normal shock with similar lift (assuming you have the diff drop & UCA's as recommended)?

Thanks

The idea for the longer travel is purely if you want a 2-2.5" front lift, essentially maxing out the front lift height, but also having shocks that can handle that lift height without maxing out in extended length consistently. They're to be used with the diff drop kit to maintain CV angles at full extension and the new UCA's so that they aren't the restricting part of the travel up front.

We still don't have a shipping date for the IMS59-60786 longer travel fronts. Let me find the shock lengths, I can't remember off the top of my head.

Edit: The 786 shocks are 28mm extended length longer than the 782's.

Are the rears extended travel? I'm not sure if you could answer this, but how do these compare to the Bilstein 5160's?

Thanks!

Yes, they're about 1.5" longer in extended length than stock shocks, but there are longer options for the rear, just not used with the standard rear configuration.

I don't have a comparison for you, as I personally haven't tried both. All the specs and features of the IMS are up above, so you could compare that to the specs of the 5160's. As a guess, I'd say these are on the higher end with stronger parts and better seals than the 5160's. I can't compare the valving, although with the IFP these have, that generally would dictate a better ride.

I'm excited. I have the OME 1.5" medium lift kit with diff drop and SPC UCAs been waiting for a good shock option that won't break the bank. Thinking the IMS59-60786 and the corresponding rears might be a great option. Please keep us informed!

Will do!! As soon as I get a good ETA on those fronts, I'll be posting up here with an update.

Hi! Do you have the rear shocks installed on your 100 series yet? If so how do you like them. I about to order a rear bumper with tire carrier from BIOR so will definitely need to upgrade my rear shocks from OEM. If you haven't installed them yet, I may beat you to it! Thanks again for all of the information. Really helpful.

I recently ordered

IMS59-60782 - Front
IMS59-60682 - Rear
with c59-171 and TB59-1600

Based from looking at the Dobinsions web site. My intent is to run a 2" lift in the front with 3" in the rear. Relooking at IMS59-60782, I'm not sure I made the right choice for the front.

I'm going to wait for the IMS59-60786 shocks for the front since I have a diff drop and SPC UCAs. I am going to order the rear shocks this week, since I plan to order a BIOR rear bumper with tire carrier and don't think my rear OEM shocks will like that.

Question for @crikeymike about delivery times.

Just over a month ago, I ordered a set of

IMS59-60782 - Front IMS for 0-1.5" lift - 100 Series

IMS59-60682 - Rear IMS for 0-3" lift - 100 Series

Gas Engine Torsion bars and rear 880 springs

along with a drawer unit and wings.

No indication of when I may be receiving the product. :(

However, I did receive the Rear bumper in just over two weeks from your place in Miami. That order was processed ok.

I haven't' made a purchase for over $2,900 for a product with this much uncertainty about delivery. Any ideas about the issue and when I can expect the product to be delivered?

You didn't order it from my company. Reach out to whoever you ordered it from and ask them for an update.
