upon replacing my oil filter, i brushed up against my distributor and i got a nice shock that traveled from one arm to the next. i would imagine that this is causing the vibration at high rpm's and can't be good.

any incite? should i still drive and be careful or....?????

not too clear here. I've gotten shocked before when ignition hot and messing with the dist (lesson learned). What did you touch that shocked you?

Everything when put together should be sealed (so nothing hot to touch) - bare wire or...? And why do you talk about vibration at high rpms? That doesn't make sense to me... but a lot doesn't so maybe i'm missing something obvious!

Was the ignition on?

What is a "high" rpm?

everything was still intact. i brushed up against the dist. with my arm when putting in the oil filter and got shocked. now, from the mouth of a mechanic friend, if there is a crack in the dist. or cap it will run and when it gets hot and it expands, causing a vibration or "misfire". i think

Yea I could buy the dizzy cap thing but still at night you would see an ark I would think

Check all the wires I bet you will find a bad one. Then check the spark plug wires at night for a blue ark

that's something that i have to do yet. but the wires themselves are only about 2 years old. but i'm gonna check it all.

as far as the vibration at high rpms...the dist. fires faster at more rpms so if there is a crack....than...

was the ignition on when it shocked you?

i thought it was off, but the more i thought about it doesn't make any sense. so it had to be on....i was making sure the filter was tight like a tiger

Even if the ignition was on, you have to be in the exact right position for the trigger to fire.

go try it again :)

replace cap/rotor and wires. that is good PM, and likely will fix any issue. keep your old ones and look them over thoroughly when off and you can see clearly. throw away any cracked or damaged wires, keep decent looking ones as spare.

would the duralast brand be ok? or should i get something better?

what he said!

I'd use OEM if possible, but if you can't then i'd get bosch if available. Maybe post up what they have and someone will chime in.

If this is the difference between not running well (and shocking you), and running better - just bout any should be an improvement.
