Can it be done? I really don't like hearing the cruiser beep at me when I'm sliding a turn on dirt.

I usually hit the cdl button. I believe that shuts it up. It stops the stability from putting the front brakes on. It gets really annoying when your really flying in the dirt, and it's beeping and constantly applying the brakes. Kills your slide!

Hit the CDL next time ( lock it) and see then.

yes there is, it will start beeping and then finally go into a constant beep if you keep sliding. I've got several friends who will testify.

However, the beep the OP is referring to is more then likely the VSC.

I've heard VSC beep, but not A-TRAC.

then you havent done extensive donuts/drifting in a snow-covered parking lot. If you spin your tires long enough it starts to get pissed and beep at you, and then it says, HLYCHT STOP SPINNING AROUND aka, steady tone.

From the LX owner's manual:

The active traction control system automatically helps control the spinning of 4 wheels which may occur when accelerating on slippery road surfaces, by controlling the output of the brake and engine. Thus, the system assists driver to control the driving power of 4 wheels. When you turn the ignition switch on, the active traction control system always turns on automatically, and the active traction control indicator light will come on. The indicator light will go off after a few seconds. When active traction control is applied, the active traction control system indicator light blinks. You may hear a sound in the engine compartment for a few seconds when the engine is started or just after the vehicle is started. This means that the active traction control system is in the self–check mode, and does not indicate malfunction. When the active traction control system is operating, you may feel vibration or noise of your vehicle, caused by operation of the brakes. This indicates the system is functioning properly. When getting the vehicle out of mud or new snow, etc., the active traction control system will help operate to prevent the wheels from spinning.

If the “VSC/TRAC” warning light comes on, have your vehicle checked by your Lexus dealer as soon as possible. The brake actuator temperature increases during the active traction control system or vehicle skid control system operating. If the brake actuator temperature becomes too high while the active traction control system or vehicle skid control system is operating, a buzzer will start to sound intermittently to indicate that the active traction control system can no longer operate. In this case, immediately stop your vehicle at a safe place. If the system continues to operate, the buzzer sound changes from intermittent to continuous and at the same time, “VSC/TRAC” warning light will come on. After the continuous buzzer sound stopped after about 3 seconds, the active traction control system temporarily stops operating in order to protect the brake actuator. (Although the active traction control system does not operate, there is no problem to continue your driving.) The system will be automatically restored after a short time and “VSC/TRAC” warning light goes off

So, all of that = no A-TRAC beep, yes VSC/TRAC beep. As for an answer to your question, you'd need to find the speaker or board that makes the tone for the VSC and disable it there. I wouldn't suggest it. Live with it for the occasional chirp off road.

I'd know that if Hertz rented Landcruisers :D

The ONLY time the beep noise functions is when VSC kicks in.

Not correct.

No ATRAC beep

If ATRAC is functioning and VSC kicks in THEN the beep begins. The when VSC is not needed any more then the beep will stop REGARDLESS of whether or not ATRAC is still working/needed.

A beep will ONLY be heard when VSC is active.

HAHAHAHA Thats funny. Before I moved to Miami I rented through a small single owned rental company. I reserved a Ford Explorer, and when I got there I was told that they gave my car away. The girl behind th desk says that I was going to get a free upgrade to a "Land Rover," which I was fine with (thinking I'd get a Discovery). She pulled out a 1999 River Rock Green Toyota Land Cruiser (no running boards, roof rack, but with a diff lock). I was actually at the time planning on buying either a Land Cruiser or LX470, hadn't driven one for longer than a few miles. I ended up driving it from Ft. Lauderdale to Key West. During the trip too, the LX470 was bought in Margate, FL.

I went wheeling at the shores of lake lanier. Crossing a rather large crack. I got a front wheel off the ground. a-track light came on, no beep.

Later on I was flying through the sand. Occasionally catching air and having a blast. And when the vsc light came on, I heard the beep. Which soon went to the long beep, and shutoff vsc.

My buddy in a 80 got some shots of me catching a little air and kickin up sand around corners. Really great pics. I'll try to put them up soon.

**Exactly...no sound, just a transparent system helping you out.

**Exactly...the beep from VSC tells you somethings going wrong. Then the longer beep tells you the VSC AND/OR ATRAC systems are disabling so to save your Brake Booster. I appologize to Loud as I meant to point this out last night about his quote.

Bottom line...you will NEVER get a beep when ATRAC is active. Let's put VSC out of the equation for now. On a long hill climb...no skidding so no VSC...the ATRAC is working continualy...there will be NO beep. If ATRAC works to it's limit (8-seconds continuous if I remember) then a beep will occur however that tells you it is NO LONGER working.

Thus...atrac sounding. To whom it may concern, just let it be. I've confirmed it thru testing for years, atrac will cause beeping...then a steady tone if you spin the wheels long enough.

Killing someone instantly or over the course of 5 days is still killing someone

BAD INFORMATION! All of us in our 100's can go out right now and SPIN OUR WHEELS and there will be NO BEEP unless you ALSO get into the SKID thingy causing VSC to also operate. 2,423,469 100-series off-roaders already know this. Can you imagine if we heard that beep in the 100, Runners, FJC's every time we lost traction, therefore spinning wheels and ATRAC taking over.

Heck, I can hit a mudd puddle right now, grab 4-low, floor it...fling mud everywhere and NO beep.

Finally...lock the CDL...YOU WIL NEVER HERE A BEEP BEEP BEEP because VSC is not active. The ONLY BEEP you will EVER hear with the CDL locked is the LONG BEEP IF you reach the 8-second limit of the ATRAC system.

BEEP!

I'm not saying, nor have I said that instant loss of traction will cause trac beeping. If you read the thread title without even reading the thread, there's what causes a beep from atrac. When atrac kills itself it beeps, beeping created by the trac system. I know if you lock the cdl and vsc turns off that will never beep, till you spin the tires long enough then traction will start to beep, it's waving a white flag saying it surrenders trying to fight the wheel spin. I'll have the final word, i've got a lot of time to kill this week.

Also, you're numbers on 100 offroaders is wrong, they didn't make that many in the 10 years of production.

OMG! HILARIOUS! Sorry, it was 8,234,465,233.1415927 100-Series. In case you haven't recognized the last 8 digits...that's (wait, I can't tell you because I'd too old and don't know). :D Anybody else know?
